Check here monthly for important updates!
September:
The third grade is off to a great start! We have been going over classroom procedures and reminding ourselves about the importance of following the D.R.E.A.M! We have begun our first chapter in Math on Place Value, while also working on building our reading stamina! This year our goal is to reach 40 minutes of sustained independent reading and we are confident this 3rd grade class with be successful! We have also begun to “plant seeds” in our Writer’s Notebooks with lists of possible writing topics. Now is the time to get into a good habit at home for completing homework and reading for 20 minutes EVERY night!
October
The 3rd grade has really gotten into the swing of things, following classroom routines and procedures. We are halfway through our exciting core novel, How to Steal a Dog, by Barbara O’Connor. Students are really engaged in this story that deals with issues of right versus wrong. We have just begun Chapter 3 in math on addition with regrouping. Soon we will also begin working on subtracting 4-digit numbers with regrouping across place values! Our fact practice is now focused on multiplication. Encourage your child to go on Reflex math at home on the computer. In Writer’s Workshop we have been working on adding sensory details and including character thoughts within a personal narrative. In the computer lab, we have been exploring Google docs. As always, please encourage your child to keep reading at home! Your support is greatly appreciated! I look forward to meeting with you all on Wednesday, November 14th for Parent/Teacher Conferences.
